Family Holiday – France. 35mm ~ Contax G2

May 2, 2018

Before wedding season really kicks into gear we took the chance for our first family holiday to visit my wife’s family in their holiday home in Mirepoix France, about an hour from Toulouse. It’s a charming French medieval town, with a lovely big square to sit and people watch while drinking a bière pression.

This was our 8-month-old daughter Evie’s first plane journey, a nervous journey I think for every new parent, plus any other passengers sat around you 🙂 But she couldn’t have been better, smiling and waving at the air hostesses the whole way.

Onto the photography stuff…
I’d recently treated myself to a Contax G2 35mm rangefinder camera + lenses, something I’d had my eye on for a while. So this was the perfect chance to give it a spin before using it on pre-wedding shoots, fashion shoots and couple portraits at weddings where I like to shoot 35mm if I can. And I’m in love! It’s beautifully styled, I love using it and the photos are lovely and sharp while maintaining all the lovely feel and vibe of real film which I love so much. I used a mix of films, mainly Kodak Portra 400, but also a Adox Silvermax B&W film and Revelog Plexus textured film (which I’ve edited quite a lot digitally as I didn’t really like the electric blue streaks it produced all over the photos).

So its a bit of a hodgepodge mix of personal family photography, street photography and a few strange double exposure experiments but I think it all fits together to give a good overview of my trip 🙂 Enjoy looking through and if you want a 35mm film shoot just get in touch.
